Therese Willkomm, PhD, ATP is currently the Director of the New Hampshire Statewide Assistive Technology Program with the Institute on Disability and clinical associate professor, University of New Hampshire. Therese will help us learn iPad features to support students with disabilities. Identify resources for finding appropriate apps for specific functional limitations, vision impairments, including tactile overlays. On the first day of the training participants will be making seven different iPad supporting devices to take home; a multi-use iPad holder, an adapted stylus, tactile overlay for iPads for the Blind, a multi-use vertical iPad holder for low vision, an iPad flipper for those who are deaf, an iPad enhancer to hard of hearing individuals, and an iPad scan and read station for learning disabilities and print disabilities. Day 2 includes iPad camera exploration, including 10 ways to interact with the iPad without touching the device!
Course Location/Format
This is a two-day training workshop. Attendees must bring an iPad and have the ability to add apps and software to the device throughout the workshop.

Course Objectives
Participants will gain knowledge and skills to:
- Learn and make seven devices that support students with disabilities (DHH, Blind/Low Vision, Learning and Print Disabilities, specific functional limitations). Participants will take home the devices they make.
- Learn and explore at least 10 ways to interact with the iPad without touching the device (i.e., using voice, geo fencing, switch access).
- Create access solutions for students with communication impairments, including executive function impairments, self-regulation, and relaxation.
Required Materials
Attendees must bring an iPad and have the ability to add apps and software to the device throughout the workshop. All other materials will be provided.
Course Requirements

- Participation: Participants are required to attend the 2-day, face-to-face training in Boise, ID.
- Complete hands-on projects: Participants are required to complete seven devices that support students with disabilities (DHH, Blind/Low Vision, Learning and Print Disabilities, specific functional limitations). The devices may be taken home upon completion.
- Survey: Participants are required to complete a satisfaction survey at the end of the course.

- What are some ways you plan on using the iPad apps and adaptations to increase independence and communication opportunities for students?
Grading
This is a Pass/Fail course. No incompletes will be given. Late work will not be accepted.
- Participants must attend both days of the two-day workshop.
- Participants must complete the hands-on device projects to pass the course. The projects will be completed within the two-day workshop.
- Participants must complete the online course satisfaction survey to pass the course.
