Course Description
Number of Credits: 1
This course will teach you the basics of accessible document creation using either Microsoft Word/PowerPoint or Google Docs/Slides. The course is intended to give you a foundation in developing accessible source documents and provide an understanding of the difference between a source document and a final document. By the end of the course, users should be able to generate a document and presentation that pass an accessibility review and understand the process for moving that document or presentation into a PDF format.

Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Differentiate between a source document and a final document.
- Develop heading structures using styles in documents and implement headings using slide styles in presentations.
- Identify where alternate text is needed and develop appropriate alternate text to fit imagery.
- Develop accessible lists.
- Create accessible tables.
- Identify complex tables and develop methods to simplify those tables.
- Implement color in an accessible manner.
- Create accessible hyperlinks.
- Remediate simple accessibility issues in source.
- Create a PDF from a source document.
- Seek out more advanced training to help further your understanding of accessible documents.
Required Materials
There are no outside readings or materials required for this course.
Course Requirements
- Participation: Participants are required to log into the course and proceed stepwise through the material to complete all four modules.
- Quiz: Participants are required to complete the final quiz with an 80% or better.
- Survey: Participants are required to complete a satisfaction survey at the end of the course.
- Final assignment (100 points): At the end of each lesson, students will be asked to complete a task related to the lesson’s activities. Through those activities students will develop an accessible source document and presentation. The completed document and presentation will be submitted to their respective final assignments.
Grading
This is a Pass/Fail course. Late work will not be accepted.
- Participants must earn an 80% or better on the final quiz to pass the course. Quizzes can be retaken until passed.
- Participants must earn an 80% or better on the final written assignment to pass the course.
