In this programming-focused course, you'll go under the hood of artificial intelligence and build machine learning and neural network models using Python. We focus on real implementation over abstract theory—by the end, you'll have trained working AI models you built yourself.
What You'll Learn:
- ML Fundamentals: Understand the core architectures behind machine learning and neural network models.
- Python for AI: Write AI programs in Python, the language at the center of modern machine learning development.
- Decision Trees: Train your first machine learning model using the scikit-learn library.
- Neural Networks: Build and train a neural network using the Keras library.
- Two Hands-On Projects: Gain practical experience implementing both a classical ML model and a deep learning model on real data.
Course Logistics:
- FORMAT: Hybrid (Simultaneous Live In-Person & Online Zoom session).
- DURATION: 1/2 Day
- REQUIREMENTS: Bring your own laptop for the in-person session.
- ELIGIBILITY: Open to all learners age 18+. See Pre-requisites below.
- LOCATION: Hedlund Building Room 231 — North Idaho College Campus, 420 North College Drive, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814
- PARKING: Parking is free on campus during the summer. Parking on the dike outside the building (one way) is also free.
- ZOOM: ZOOM link will be accessed in CANVAS once registration is complete.
- BONUS ACCESS: Zoom recordings will be available to review if you missed something or want a review.

Prerequisites
- Basic Python programming familiarity OR CS 111C Introduction to Python course.
- 18 years of age or older.
