Course Description

By successful completion of this course, youth will learn:

  • Understand the basic concepts of reproduction and puberty in livestock
  • Identify major male and female reproductive structures and functions in beef, sheep, swine, and goats
  • Explain the benefits of crossbreeding for each species
  • Understand basic genetic concepts and heritability of traits
  • To apply what they've learned through a 4-H project

It will include doing the lessons, completing any check for understanding, working on your project/exhibit, 4-H club meetings, any learning activities you do in relation to this course and project, your time to prepare for your demonstration, your interview and completing your record book. You may find other activities not included in this list that contribute to your course.
