Course Description

By successful completion of this course, youth will learn:

  • To compare types of bedding and choose the best bedding material to positively impact animal performance.
  • To design and discuss the amount of pen space needed to provide adequate room for animals to grow.
  • How to demonstrate the impact animal flight zones have in safe movement and handling of animals.
  • To recognize how temperature and airflow in a barn or pen can impact animal growth and performance.
  • To apply what they have learned through a 4-H project.

  • Environment: caring for my animal
  • Housing my animal
  • Safe animal handling
  • Temperature and Ventilation (air flow) in the barn

Course Requirements:

You need to complete The Course Hours Log to show that you have completed the required 60 hours. Please log all your activities that you do for this course. It will include doing the lessons, completing any check for understanding, working on your project/exhibit, 4-H club meetings, any learning activities you do in relation to this course and project, your time to prepare for your demonstration, your interview and completing your record book. You may find other activities not included in this list that contribute to your course.
