Children's Literature for Teacher Librarians will develop students’ basic knowledge and understanding of the field of children’s literature, particularly as it pertains to teacher librarians, with a focus on children ages 2-12. This course will emphasize skills, tools, and insights necessary for effective professional librarianship in the area of services to children.
Learner Outcomes
- Students will be familiar with a range of genres, formats, literary elements and the history in children's literature.
- Students will be able to find and use selection tools for evaluating and choosing literature for a school or public library collection
- Students will be aware of intellectual freedom issues related to children's literature and libraries.
- Students will read a variety of children's literature and be able to write annotations summarizing and evaluating the works.
