Course Description

Barn Owl

Bayesian Analysis in Ecology covers the theory and practice of building and analyzing Bayesian models of ecological data.

Topics include:

  1. the derivation and interpretation of Bayes’ theorem
  2. choice of priors
  3. implementation of MCMC algorithms
  4. convergence diagnostics
  5. interval estimation
  6. model selection.

Model formulations include:

  1. linear and nonlinear models
  2. hierarchical models
  3. closed and open population mark-recapture models
  4. state space models, and
  5. integrated population models.

We will use R to simulate data sets with known parameters and use JAGS to estimate parameters. 3 credits.
