Course Description

This professional development course is designed for educators in the Coeur d'Alene School District who wish to deepen their understanding of curriculum, assessment, and instruction in Elementary ELA. Participants will engage in a comprehensive analysis of the alignment of the District's essential standards, assessment, and instructional practices as they relate to elementary ELA. Through collaborative discussions and data analysis, educators will learn how to leverage assessment data from ISATs, iStation, Benchmark and classroom assessments to make informed decisions regarding essential standards.

Throughout the course, participants will develop a minimum of two proficiency scales for each grade level. This course emphasizes collaboration and communication with fellow educators, fostering a shared understanding and agreement on essential standards and assessment in the district.

Learner Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Continue District alignment work with standards, assessments and resources.
  • Analyze district assessment data from ISATs, iStation (the IRI), Benchmark and classroom assessments to inform decisions about district curriculum and instruction.
  • Develop a minimum of two proficiency scales per grade level for Elementary ELA.
  • Collaborate and communicate with educators across the district to hear multiple perspectives and develop agreement and understanding of the work.

Must be a CDA School District Employee.

Section Notes

You are expected to attend and engage in all meetings and collaborative activities. A passing grade will be earned by developing proficiency scales and collaborating, creating, and communicating out curriculum documents to PLTs (Professional Learning Teams).

Meeting Dates:

January 17 (7 hours): Full day PD. Build proficiency scales, plan cross district collaboration, and address needs for integration of resources.

February 14 (4 hours): Cross-district collaboration: Share proficiency scales, supporting curriculum documents, and gather feedback from teachers across the district.

March 7 (2 hours): Review feedback from cross district collaboration, tune, and continue building proficiency scales.

April 18 (2 hours): Continue building proficiency scales and plan cross-district collaboration for May 16.
