Course Description

This one credit course is part of on-going professional development within the College of Education at the University of Idaho. This course helps to develop mentoring skills and understanding of the standards and dispositions associated with the supervision of pre-service teachers. It is aimed at developing educational professionals as curricular leaders and leaders in professional development for student interns.

Course Goals and Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

  1. Develop mentoring skills as supervising professionals.
  2. Develop collegial relationships with mentees.
  3. Provide feedback to student teacher interns and help them improve their teaching skills in a mutually supportive environment.
  4. Assist student interns in developing a sense of professionalism as beginning educators.
  5. Provide feedback to the College of Education regarding the intern and the teacher preparation program.

Section Notes

Students will complete the following assignments:

  1. Provide opportunities for the student intern to observe and interact with UI teacher education students in a K-12 setting for a minimum of 15 hours.
  2. Provide ongoing feedback to the practicum student to help the intern improve their teaching skills and develop a sense of professionalism.
  3. Complete an evaluation for the practicum student based on the College of Education’s standards and dispositions (this will be sent to you at the end of the semester).
