Course Description

In this course we review the three core programming languages: Scratch, NetLogo, and Processing. We discuss classroom issues and ways to address them. Currently, this includes an emphasis on the proper use of AI tools in an educational, programming environment. The course also covers extending projects to make sure all students are fully engaged. The course meets for eight hours face-to-face and includes several hours of pre-recorded material for the students (high school teachers) to review.

This is a required course for educators teaching CS 112 as a dual credit course.

Course Outline

Students (i.e. high school teachers) will be able to offer the content of the dual credit course CS112 Computational Thinking and Problem Solving in an effective manner that aligns with UI's course. This includes:

  • Teaching Scratch, NetLogo, and Processing
  • Teaching computational problem-solving skills
  • Teaching how to incorporate mathematical and logical thinking and problem solving into the design and creation of computer programs.

 

Who Should Attend

High school teachers who are interested in teaching a computer science course offered as dual credit at their high school.
