Course Description

The CTSO State Leadership Conference provides Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) advisors with the opportunity to earn professional development credit through active participation in and leadership at CTSO State Leadership Conferences. This course is designed to enhance advisors’ skills in leadership, organization, and reflective practice by guiding and supporting students throughout the preparation, participation, and follow-up stages of the conference experience.

Learner Outcomes

1. Provide Leadership and Direction:

  • Guide and lead students as they prepare for the CTSO State Leadership Conference.
  • Engage and motivate students, fostering responsibility and active participation.

2. Manage Conference Preparatory Activities:

  • Recruit students and chaperones.
  • Complete all registration paperwork, submit membership dues, and manage logistics.

3. Supervise and Participate in the Conference:

  • Attend the full conference with students.
  • Ensure students' safety, engagement, and adherence to guidelines throughout the event.

4. Complete Conference Follow-Up:

  • Oversee students’ return and complete all post-conference tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders about post-conference activities.

5. Reflect and Report:

  • Submit a comprehensive “Statement of Activity and Reflection” summarizing experiences, successes, and areas for improvement.

Must be a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Advisor.

One professional development credit represents approximately 15 hours of academic activity and learning. These hours are fulfilled through the following activities:

Pre-Conference Preparation:

  • Recruiting and preparing students for competition.
  • Organizing logistics such as travel, registration, and chaperone coordination.
  • Submitting necessary paperwork and dues.

Conference Participation:

  • Attending and actively supervising students during the full day(s) of the conference.
  • Engaging in leadership activities and facilitating student participation.

Post-Conference Reflection:

  • Writing and submitting a one- to two-page “Statement of Activity and Reflection.”
  • Completing any necessary follow-up tasks or communications.

Advisors are required to submit a written reflection summarizing their involvement, lessons learned, and areas for growth by May 1, 2025.
