Course Description

This course is an eLearning training package that uses the IdahoSTARS RISE Learning Management System (LMS). The eLearning modules emphasize early brain development, physical, cognitive, language and communication, social and emotional development, intervention services, health and safety, child abuse and neglect, safe sleep, outdoor environments, and ethics.

Learner Outcomes

• Students will identify the defining features of developmentally appropriate practice in childcare settings.
• Students will demonstrate knowledge of typical development across the physical, cognitive, language and communication, and social emotional domains and recognize indicators for concern.
• Students will identify activities and interactions that facilitate optimal development across domains and stages.
• Students will identify different sleep needs across developmental stages.
• Students will Define the term “professional” and articulate the significance in the field of childcare for ages Birth – 12.
• Students will identify characteristics of outdoor physical space and equipment that are safe and support child development.
